To protect the privacy of families and students, as a private teacher I only keep names, dates of birth of students for exam entry, parents' or adult students' phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses where relevant such as to post certificates or music with their consent, and as long as required for communication about lessons and exam entry. I don't take personal contact information for students under the age of 18.
Contact details of enquirers on my waiting list will be kept for a maximum of two years, following their consent, for the purpose of contacting them in case of availability for lessons.
Students, families and enquirers have the right to request me to remove information from my records at any time, which will be removed immediately. Any personal information given as part of the student/parent/teacher relationship will not be disclosed, with the exception of to the exam board if the information is necessary for entry or exam arrangements, or in case of child protection issues to the NSPCC, social services or the police. I will remove all of the information regarding students and families from my records as soon as the teaching contract ends. Information is stored in a private file in my Google Drive account as well as parents/adult students' phone numbers and email addresses stored on my mobile phone and in my email account (all password protected). Relevant information will also be stored by the exam board following exam entry.
Letters from the relevant authorities regarding any special needs will be stored securely in a file in my studio and by the exam board until they expire or until the teaching contract ends, whichever comes first. These are only required when arranging special exam conditions.
If you as a customer are concerned that your personal information has not been handled correctly, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
